After numbing your teeth and gums to maximize your comfort during the procedure, the tooth is reshaped to accommodate the thickness of the new porcelain crown.

A Crowning Achievement in Dental Replacement
If you have one or more missing teeth, artificial replacements like bridges and crowns are a great solution. Unlike removable options such as dentures, here at Ocean Dental, we can provide you with a secure alternative.
Bridges and crowns permanently restore significant tooth loss. Absent or damaged teeth that require restorative work beyond a filling may require a more thorough yet easy solution. Upon your visit to our office in Hilton Head Island, we will remedy your dental concerns with suitable options that mirror the same function and feel as real teeth.
What To Expect
What to Expect from a Dental Bridge
Impression material is used to make a detailed mold. This mold will be sent to a specialized lab to craft your new crown or bridge using long-lasting materials such as porcelain or porcelain fused to metal. During the time allowed for the dental laboratory to create the crown or bridge, a temporary crown will be placed for your comfort.
When you arrive for your installation appointment, we will carefully remove the temporary crown. Then, we will evaluate the fit and shade of the new crown or bridge before cementing the permanent restoration in place.
Artificial tooth caps are affixed over partially damaged teeth or in some cases, dental implant rods.

How Bridges and Crowns Work
You can choose dental crowns made of metal, porcelain, or a hybrid of both. Dental bridges also come in a variety of sizes—a single-tooth bridge fused to the two adjacent teeth, a two-tooth bridge composed of a pontic (false tooth) and crown, or a three-tooth bridge anchored at the ends by crowns.
Before Dental Bridges and Crowns
- Ask a friend or family member to drive you home if you will be under anesthesia for your dental bridge or crown procedure.
- Eat and drink a balanced meal beforehand, especially if you are going to be under anesthesia.
- Dress comfortably, as you will be in the dentist's chair for at least an hour.
After Dental Bridges and Crowns
- Do not eat anything hard or sticky that could break or dislodge the temporary crown or bridge.
- If possible, chew on the side of your mouth opposite the temporary crown.
- Try not to floss directly in the area of the temporary crown or bridge (to keep it from coming off.)

A dental bridge is a fixed prosthetic that replaces one or more missing teeth by spanning any gaps—enhancing function and aesthetics.
A dental crown is a tooth-shaped cap placed over a damaged or decayed tooth to restore its shape, size, strength, and appearance. We may also use crowns to conceal dental implants or to anchor dental bridges into place.
With proper maintenance, dental bridges and crowns can last years, typically between 5 and 15. However, their longevity depends on how consistently you follow our oral hygiene advice, including regular dental check-ups.
When you come to Ocean Aesthetics and Dental, your comfort and safety are our top priorities. Our patients report a generally comfortable experience, as we perform crown and bridge procedures under local anesthesia.
Our experts custom-make every dental bridge and crown to match the size, shape, and color of your natural teeth. Here at Ocean Aesthetics and Dental, we use impressions or digital scans of your teeth to fabricate your bridge or crown. Once created, we will bond or “cement” them into place.
It’s not possible to whiten dental bridges and crowns with traditional teeth whitening methods. However, if they become stained or discolored over time, we can replace them with new restorations that match your desired shade.
Caring for dental bridges and crowns does not differentiate far from caring for natural teeth. Maintaining good oral hygiene by brushing at least twice, flossing, and using an antibacterial mouthwash daily is crucial. Avoid biting on hard objects and using your teeth as tools to prevent damaging these restorations.
At Ocean Aesthetics and Dental, we have mastered the art and science behind long-lasting restorations. We securely bond your dental bridges or crowns into place to maximize your comfort and their longevity.
