Dental Crowns & Bridges in Hilton Head & Bluffton | Custom, Natural-Looking Restorations

Dr. Sugg and her team have been restoring damaged and missing teeth in Hilton Head and Bluffton since 2008 — with custom crowns and bridges designed to look, feel, and function like your natural teeth.

Secure Your Smile

A dental crown is a custom-made cap placed over a damaged, weakened, or decayed tooth to restore its shape, size, strength, and appearance.

A dental bridge replaces one or more missing teeth by anchoring an artificial tooth to the healthy teeth on either side — or to a dental implant. Both are permanently fixed restorations, meaning no removal, no adhesives, and no compromise on how you eat or speak.

At Ocean Dental, every crown and bridge is custom-crafted to match the color and shape of your surrounding teeth for a seamless, natural result.

What it Treats

  • Damaged or decayed teeth
  • Cracked or fractured teeth
  • Weakened teeth after root canal treatment
  • Missing teeth (one or more in a row)
  • Severely worn-down teeth
  • Teeth with large, failing fillings
  • Misshapen or discolored teeth that can’t be improved with whitening

Your Concerns, Our Focus

Missing or weakened teeth do more than affect your appearance — they can make eating difficult, cause neighboring teeth to shift, and put extra strain on your jaw over time.

At Ocean Dental, Dr. Sugg and her team address these concerns with custom crowns and bridges crafted from high-quality, tooth-colored porcelain. Each restoration is shade-matched and shaped to blend naturally with your surrounding teeth, restoring full function while protecting your long-term oral health.

By filling gaps and reinforcing weakened teeth, crowns and bridges also help prevent the bone loss and alignment changes that can follow tooth loss.

How It Works

what To Expect

Dr. Sugg and her team begin by numbing the area with local anesthesia so you feel comfortable throughout. The tooth is then gently reshaped to create the ideal fit for your new crown or bridge.

A detailed impression of your tooth is taken and sent to a specialist dental laboratory, where your permanent crown or bridge is custom-fabricated from durable porcelain. In the meantime, we place a temporary crown to protect your tooth and keep you comfortable while you wait — typically one to two weeks.

At your final appointment, we remove the temporary crown and carefully check the fit, bite, and shade of your permanent restoration before cementing it securely in place. We make any necessary adjustments to ensure it feels completely natural before you leave.

Benefits

Crowns and bridges are among the most established and well-researched restorations in dentistry. Here is why patients at Ocean Dental choose them:

Natural Look & Feel

Every crown and bridge is custom-crafted and shade-matched to your surrounding teeth by Dr. Sugg and her team. Because they are permanently fixed, there is no removal, no adhesive, and no compromise on how natural they look or feel.

Strong & Long-Lasting

Made from durable, high-quality porcelain, crowns and bridges fully restore chewing function — meaning you can eat what you want without restriction. They also protect weakened teeth from further damage and prevent neighboring teeth from drifting into the gap.

Protects Your Long-Term Oral Health

By covering a damaged tooth or filling a gap, crowns and bridges prevent the bone loss, misalignment, and bite problems that often follow untreated tooth damage or loss.

Frequently Asked Questions About Bridges And Crowns

The procedure is performed under local anesthesia, so you should feel pressure but not pain during treatment. Some patients experience mild sensitivity or soreness for a few days afterward, which is normal and typically resolves on its own. If discomfort persists beyond a week, contact our office.

With good oral hygiene and regular checkups with Dr. Sugg and her team, crowns and bridges typically last 10–15 years — and many last significantly longer. Avoiding habits like chewing ice, grinding your teeth, or using your teeth to open packaging will help extend their lifespan.

No — in fact, most patients find the opposite. A bridge restores normal chewing function and can actually improve bite efficiency and comfort compared to living with a missing tooth. Speech is rarely affected, and any minor adjustment typically resolves within a few days as you get used to your restoration.

Very unlikely. Every crown and bridge at Ocean Dental is custom-made to match the color, shape, and size of your surrounding teeth. Most patients tell us that even they forget which tooth has a crown after a short time.

Care is straightforward. Brush twice daily and floss carefully around the crown or under the bridge using floss threaders or an interdental brush — this area is particularly important to keep clean. Avoid chewing on very hard foods like ice or hard candy. Come in for your regular checkups so Dr. Sugg and her team can monitor the restoration and catch any issues early.

Yes. A crown is used to restore a damaged tooth that is still present, while a bridge is specifically designed to replace one or more missing teeth by anchoring to the healthy teeth on either side — or to dental implants. During your consultation, Dr. Sugg and her team will assess your situation and recommend the most appropriate restoration for your specific needs.
