At Ocean Aesthetics and Dental, we offer a wide variety of services to provide comprehensive care for our patients.
In addition to regular dental services, we also provide treatments that address concerns we are passionate about. If you suffer from TMD, periodontitis, or sleep apnea, here is how we can help.

TMD
Temporomandibular disorders (TMDs) are a range of disorders that affect your temporomandibular joint (TMJ), which connects your jawbone to your skull on either side of your jaw. These disorders can cause pain and discomfort in the jaw and surrounding muscles. Fortunately, treatment and management strategies are often effective in alleviating symptoms.
At our practice, we can diagnose TMD and develop a personalized treatment plan for your condition. Diagnosis often involves a clinical examination, medical history review, and imaging tests such as X-rays or MRI scans to assess the condition of your jaw and TMJ.
One of the most common and effective treatments for TMD is the use of occlusal guards (also known as night guards or splints). These custom-made mouth guards fit your teeth perfectly and help alleviate pain by reducing stress on the TMJ, preventing teeth grinding, and promoting proper jaw alignment.
In more severe cases, bite adjustment procedures, such as reshaping teeth or orthodontic treatment, may be necessary to correct bite misalignment and reduce undue stress on the TMJ.

Periodontal Disease
Periodontitis, commonly known as gum disease, is a serious condition that can deeply affect your gums, teeth, and jawbone if left untreated. Early signs of periodontal disease include tender or swollen gums, bleeding while brushing or flossing, and persistent bad breath. At our practice, we can diagnose your periodontal condition and provide a variety of treatments depending on your needs.
One common method we use is scaling and root planing, a deep-cleaning technique that removes built-up plaque and tartar from your teeth and below the gum line. This procedure can halt the progression of periodontitis and promote healing of the gums.
For more advanced cases of periodontal disease, we utilize perioscopy. Perioscopy is a minimally invasive technology that allows us to examine your tooth roots and the surrounding periodontal structures without performing surgery. The procedure simply involves the use of a tiny fiber-optic camera, known as a “perioscope,” inserted below the gum line to provide a detailed view of the root surfaces and periodontal pockets.
By utilizing perioscopy, we can provide a thorough and effective treatment for periodontal disease, helping to restore the health of your gums and prevent further damage to your teeth and jawbone.

Sleep Apnea
We are passionate about sleep apnea treatment, as our doctor suffers from sleep apnea herself. If you struggle with sleep apnea, let us know. We are happy to provide insight into your symptoms and examine your airway to determine the severity of your case.
We will begin by conducting a sleep study to determine your exact sleep apnea issue. Then we will use an innovative sonar device called the Eccovision Acoustic Pharyngometer to map your airway and identify the narrowest areas. This non-invasive technology uses sound waves to create an acoustic profile of your airway, helping us pinpoint the exact locations where obstructions occur.
For moderate-to-severe cases, we typically recommend a CPAP (Continuous Positive Airway Pressure) machine. For milder cases, or for those who can not tolerate a CPAP machine, we can create a mandibular splint. This custom device keeps your airway open by repositioning your lower jaw slightly forward, preventing airway obstruction during sleep.
By leveraging advanced diagnostic tools like the Eccovision Acoustic Pharyngometer, we can provide precise and personalized treatment for sleep apnea, helping you breathe easier and enjoy a better night’s sleep.
